Which vehicles will be inspected in the NYVIP program?

In addition to the current safety and low enhanced inspection, only 1996 and newer vehicles equipped with OBD II will undergo the emissions part of the inspection. The two most recent model years will be exempted.

OBD II’s main purpose is to test emissions-related components and systems. The vehicle is tested by onboard diagnostic software.

OBD II onboard tests run automatically during vehicle operation.
