Monitor Types

There are two general types of monitors: Continuous and Non-Continuous.

Continuous monitors run continuously, as their name suggests. Their tests are never completed, and they run as long as the vehicle is being driven. Continuous monitors include the Comprehensive Component, Fuel, and Misfire monitors.

All other monitors are Non-Continuous. They are designed to run once during each vehicle trip, and then stop.

The vehicle needs to be operated under specific conditions known as trips before non-continuous monitors can run to completion.
