How can we tell which monitors are installed in a vehicle?

An OBD II scan tool can display a list that tells us which monitors are actually installed in a vehicle and, whether they are Ready or Not Ready. Any monitors listed as Unsupported (or N/A) are not used in the vehicle, although they may be used in another vehicle.

This list is known as the Monitor Readiness Status list. Vehicles with too many monitors that are Not Ready cannot pass the NYVIP inspection.

Note: Scan tools from various manufacturers may display monitor readiness status using terms like Complete/Incomplete; Yes/No; Ready/Not Ready, etc. The NYVIP test equipment software displays monitors using the terms Ready and Not Ready.
