Identifying the MIL OBD II stores a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) and illuminates the MIL for emissions related faults only. These may include any powertrain fault, faults in certain sensors and actuators, excessive fuel corrections, engine misfire, and failure of secondary emissions components such as those used in the EGR, Secondary Air Injection, Catalyst, Oxygen Sensor, Oxygen Sensor Heater, and EVAP systems. Some vehicles have additional dashboard warning lights to indicate vehicle problems that may exist in non-emissions related systems. These might include an oil pressure light, low tire pressure indicator, the ABS light, and the Air Bag light, among others. These other lights have no bearing on the NYVIP emissions inspection. The MIL is the only light that the OBD II emissions test is concerned with. |
