Reading DTCs

• Some DTCs are defined by SAE , the Society of Automotive Engineers. All SAE DTCs have a second digit of zero (0), 2, or 3.

• DTCs with a second digit of 1 or 3 indicate a manufacturer-specific DTC defined by a vehicle maker.

A vehicle that has a MIL on with a DTC fails the emissions part of the test. Vehicles do NOT fail the NYVIP emissions test for a Pending Code. Pending codes should not illuminate the MIL.
