NYVIP MESSAGE No. 10 (2006)

TO: SNAP-ON/SUN OR JOHN BEAN NYTEST STATIONS

FROM: NYS DEPT. OF MOTOR VEHICLES

SUBJECT: SNAP-ON/SUN SOFTWARE UPDATE

On August 2, 2006, DMV informed Snap-On/SUN stations (See NYVIP Message #8) of an update to the software in your NYTEST machine. This message is being sent to stations that have not performed an inspection since that date, with the new software version.

If you have updated the software but have not performed a NYTEST inspection, please fax a copy of the Analyzer Status Report to DMV at 518-474-0844 so we have a record that the new version of the software is installed. The directions for printing this report are printed below.

If you have not yet installed the new software, you must do so immediately. There is no charge for this update. Instructions regarding the update are below. If the NYTEST unit is not working, you must have it serviced and the software updated.

If DMV does not receive an inspection or a faxed copy of the Analyzer Status Report with the new software version by October 2, 2006, a stop will be placed on all inspection activity, including NYVIP inspections.

To print an Analyzer Status Report

• On the Main Menu screen, arrow down to item 2 - Utility Menu and hit the enter key to get to the Utility Menu

• On the Utility Menu screen arrow down to item 5 – Analyzer Status and hit enter to get to the Analyzer Status screen

• The Analyzer Status report will be displayed, print this screen by hitting the F11 key. At the bottom of the screen you should see a note saying sending report to printer.

To receive the software update, you will need to use the following procedure:

• Shut down the analyzer

• Start the analyzer and when the start up box opens, select the option for “Remote software update”.

• The Snap-On remote software update box will appear with directions “press enter to continue”, or it will continue automatically.

• The software will dial to the Snap-On server, then you will get a message update version 6.00 is available.

• After the download is complete, the software will install and restart the analyzer automatically.

• After the startup box appears, use the TAB and Arrow and Enter keys to select Start Emission Analyzer.

• After the software opens, on the main menu check the bottom of the screen for version 6.00.

These are messages sent by NYS DMV to the inspection stations via the emissions analyzer units. They frequently contain important information, usage tips, or announcements of system changes.
