NYVIP MESSAGE No

NYVIP MESSAGE No. 15 (2006)

12/29/2006

TO: All INSPECTION STATIONS

FROM: NYS DEPT. OF MOTOR VEHICLES

SUBJECT: SOFTWARE UPDATE—IMPORTANT INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Recently, SGS Testcom mailed the NYVIP 2006 Software update CD, with installation instructions to all NYVIP inspection stations. The first OBD inspection after the NYVIP unit is updated will update the scan tool and will take longer than usual.

SGS Testcom has received a few calls from stations that have unplugged the scan tool during that first inspection before the inspection was fully completed. This caused damage to the scan tool, requiring replacement. To prevent damage to the scan tool, you must keep the scan tool plugged into the vehicle during the first inspection after you install the software into the NYVIP unit. Please watch the screen prompts carefully and follow the instructions closely.

Do not unplug the scan tool until the screen prompts tell you the inspection is completed.

REMINDER-

If you received the update and have not loaded it into your NYVIP analyzer, do so right away. This update must be installed by 1/31/2007. Failure to load the update could result in an Administrative Stop being placed on your Facility License, causing you to be locked out of the NYVIP analyzer and interrupting your ability to inspect vehicles until the update is performed and the stop is removed.

The software update CD is easy to load by following the instructions and takes less than five minutes. If you have not received the update CD, instructions to load the software or require assistance, please contact the Help Desk at 1-866-469-8477.
