ANNUAL SOFTWARE UPDATE
NYVIP MESSAGE No. 28
2008
DATE: 04/18/2008
TO: ALL INSPECTION
STATIONS
FROM: NYS DEPT. OF
MOTOR VEHICLES
SUBJECT: ANNUAL
SOFTWARE UPDATE
In a few days you will
receive a CD in the mail from SGS Testcom. This CD will contain the
latest NYVIP software update. We are pleased to provide you
with this enhanced software that will now allow you to order
inspection stickers using the NYVIP unit and also incorporates
several changes that were suggested by certified inspectors.
Please continue to
submit your suggestions on improvements to the inspection process.
You can do this by selecting Contractor Add On Functions in the Main
Menu, and then selecting Send Feedback.
When you receive the CD
you should follow the enclosed instructions for updating your NYVIP
unit. You must install the software immediately upon
receipt. It is important that all NYVIP units use the same
version of the software. If the software is not installed by
05/09/2008 it will cause the NYVIP unit to lockout and your station
will not be able to do any inspections until the new version is
loaded.
If you need
assistance in loading the update or if you haven’t received the
update CD by 04/28/2008, contact the SGS Testcom Help Desk at
866-469-8477.
The following is a
summary of the major changes incorporated into this Annual Software
Update.
Sticker Ordering on
the Sticker Management Menu – You will now be
able to order inspection stickers from DMV through Testcom using your
NYVIP unit. There will be an additional $1.95 Testcom
transaction fee for each connection to the sticker order menu on
the DMV web site through the NYVIP analyzer. This charge will
appear on your monthly invoice. You can order stickers from the
Sticker Management Menu by selecting the Order Stickers option.
You will need a credit card to pay for the stickers and an e-mail
address for DMV to send you an order confirmation. (Note: this will
connect the NYVIP Unit to the DMV website. You can connect
directly to the DMV website for sticker ordering on your own
computer at nysdmv.com.)
Daily Report
– There will now be a reminder on the Daily Report regarding the
renewal of your facility inspection license.
If it is going to expire within 30 days and has not been renewed or a
renewed license has not been scanned into the NYVIP unit, the report
will include the following message, “Your Inspection Station
license will expire at the end of the month. Please scan the
barcode on the renewed license into your NYVIP unit. If you
have not renewed your license, for faster service renew on-line at
nysdmv.com.
Sticker
Inventory Report –
Every section of the Sticker Inventory Report (e.g. Safety
Certificates Issued, Safety Certificates Damaged or Stolen, etc.) and
the End of the Year Report will now show the totals for that section.
State Message Menu –
All messages will now be listed on the menu with the date and time of
issue and they will all contain a title to make it easier to find a
message at a later date.
Safety Criteria –
The following listings have been separated for clarity.
79.22: Light Duty
Trailers, 79.22a: Hitch System
79.23: Medium Duty
Vehicles, 79.23a: Brake System
79.27: Heavy Vehicle
Inspection, 79.27a: Tires
79.28: Inspection of
Motorcycles, 79.28a: Brakes
Computer Based
Training (CBT) Menu – Selection #2 Online Help
has been changed to Important Information. We added a listing
of DMV website addresses for DMV forms to make it easier for you to
find these forms on our website.
Out of Business –
If a station selects the option for Out of Business, the NYVIP unit
will now print a Sticker Inventory Report, Station Performance Report
and Analyzer Status Report for a 3-month period and will also print a
Daily Report for the last date that inspections were performed.
Vehicle Inspection
Receipt – The border on the sides of the receipt
have been eliminated saving ink and time to print the receipt.
10-Day Extensions will print in bold black text on all printers.
The following statement will be printed in bold black text above a
10-Day Extension “You must display this notice in the lower left
corner of the vehicle’s windshield . Receipts issued for
motorcycle inspections will indicate, “Brakes Inspected,
previously it read, “wheels removed.
MAKE Table –
The following vehicle Makes have been added to this table, MINI,
Smart, Hummer, and Scion. Be sure to use the correct make
whenever possible, and avoid using “Other unless the make does
not appear in the table. This will ensure the inspection is
recorded to the correct vehicle and will help your customers avoid
problems getting their registrations renewed.
Heavy Duty (HD)
Trailer Inspections – Per the regulations and the
inspection fee chart, an inspection station that is approved for a 2A
license can inspect HD vehicles and trailers 18,000 lbs and greater.
However, a 2B license is required to inspect Semi Trailers 18,000 lbs
and greater. On a HD trailer inspection NYVIP will ask the
question “is this a Semi Trailer? If the answer is yes,
the station must have a 2B license and the inspector must have a
Group 2 license for the inspection to be performed.
Safety and ECD
Screens – Instructions on the bottom of these
screens for accessing Safety and ECD inspection pass fail criteria
have been made clearer by removing the words “to view help and
inserting the words “to view Safety Inspection Criteria on the
Safety screen and “to view ECD Inspection Criteria on the ECD
screen.
Brakes Inspected
Screen – The option of “Road Tested has been
added for motorcycle inspections. The screen for a vehicle
inspection has been made larger allowing all options to be viewed
without the need to scroll through the options.
Daily Report Prompt –
At startup, a prompt appeared asking if the
inspector would like to print yesterday’s Daily Report. This
prompt has been eliminated since the report now prints automatically
at the end of each day.
These are messages sent by NYS DMV to the
inspection stations via the emissions analyzer units. They frequently contain important
information, usage tips, or announcements of system changes.
