Replacement of 2010 Safety Emission Stickers

NYVIP UNIT MESSAGE No. 39

4/03/2009

TO: All INSPECTION STATIONS

FROM: NYS DEPT. OF MOTOR VEHICLES

SUBJECT: Replacement of 2010 Safety Emissions Stickers

The Department of Motor Vehicles has recently discovered a potential problem with some 2010 gray Safety Emissions Certificates (VS-1082SE) not adhering properly to windshields.

Some motorists report that they are using tape to affix the sticker. DMV is directing inspection stations and motorists to reaffix a non-sticking inspection sticker, if they still have it, or to replace the sticker in the event that is no longer available. Because of this situation we would like to remind Inspection Stations of the procedure a motorist should follow to obtain a replacement inspection certificate.

If the sticker did not remain attached to the windshield but they still have the sticker, they can attach the sticker with clear tape or a small amount of clear adhesive.

If the sticker is not usable or if they do not have the original inspection sticker, the vehicle can be re-inspected or they can follow the instructions below.

Send a request to DMV and include the reason for replacement, a daytime phone number and either a copy of the inspection receipt OR include the following information:

The inspection certificate number of the original inspection sticker

The year and make of the vehicle

The vehicle plate number

The odometer reading at the time of the inspection

The date of the inspection

Although there is normally a $2.00 fee to replace a sticker, this fee is being waived if the sticker is defective. Please indicate that this replacement is for a “defective sticker in the request. Mail the required items to:

Bureau of Consumer and Facility Services

Issuance Unit
