NYTEST Off-Line Limits
NYVIP
MESSAGE No. 47 (2010)
02/26/2010
TO:
All NYMA INSPECTION STATIONS
FROM:
NYS DEPT. OF MOTOR VEHICLES
SUBJECT:
NYTEST OFF-LINE LIMITS
Effective
immediately the number of NYTEST
OFF - LINE INSPECTIONS
that are permitted is being reduced from the current maximum limit of
TEN
(10) to Five (5).
The off-line limit for NYVIP inspections will not change. After five
off – line inspections you must transmit the NYTEST inspection
information to DMV or NYTEST inspections will be stopped until the
data is transmitted to DMV. This may also result in a stop of NYVIP
inspections
until you transmit the NYTEST information.
DMV
is making this change in order to ensure that motorists are not
inconvenienced when inspection stations do not transmit the
inspection information to DMV promptly. Motorists
attempting
to renew their vehicle registration must have a valid emission
inspection on their DMV record or the registration renewal is denied.
When a station does not transmit the data to DMV promptly, motorists
cannot renew their registration.
The
only time inspections should be done off - line is when there is a
communications or equipment problem, and that problem must be looked
into immediately and corrected. If the NYTEST equipment and
communications are working properly, inspections are not affected.
Stations
are responsible for ensuring that the NYTEST equipment is operating
and calibrated properly. Failure to maintain an operational NYTEST
system will result in DMV or DEC action against the inspection
station.
If
you have any questions you may contact Clean Air at 518-473-0597, or
if you have questions about equipment maintenance contractors you may
call DEC at 1-877-231-5411.
These are messages sent by NYS DMV to the
inspection stations via the emissions analyzer units. They frequently contain important
information, usage tips, or announcements of system changes.
