INSPECTION GROUPS AND MAXIMUM FEE CHART
Effective September 1, 2004

VEHICLE GROUPS
(Maximum Gross Weight (MGW) for inspection purposes is the weight indicated on the vehicle registration certificate)

Light Vehicles
GROUP 1 Safety Inspection
a. All motor vehicles, except trailers, including motor vehicles with a seating capacity of fifteen passengers or less, plus a driver, with a MGW of 10,000 pounds or less
$10.00
All motor vehicles, except trailers, including motor vehicles with a seating capacity of fifteen passengers or less, plus a driver, with a MGW over 10,000 pounds, up to and including 18,000 pounds MGW, except when the registrant requests a Group 2 Heavy Vehicle Inspection* $15.00
b. Trailers with a MGW of 18,000 pounds or less, except those trailers with a MGW over 10,000 pounds, up to and including 18,000 pounds MGW, when the registrant requests a Group 2 Heavy Vehicle Inspection* $6.00
Heavy Vehicles
GROUP 2 Safety Inspection
a. All motor vehicles over 18,000 pounds MGW
All motor vehicles with a MGW over 10,000 pounds, up to and including 18,000 pounds MGW, when requested by the registrant
All motor vehicles with a seating capacity of more than fifteen passengers, plus a driver

GROUP 3 Safety Inspection

Emissions Inspections
High-Enhanced
All non-exempt vehicles registered in New York City or Rockland, Westchester, Nassau or Suffolk counties, must have a dynamometer, idle, or OBD II emissions test, and must pay this additional fee.

OBDII
All 1996 and newer non-exempt vehicles, 8,500 pounds MGW or less, registered outside the New York Metropolitan Area must have this emissions test, and may be charged this additional fee.

Low-Enhanced
All 1995 and older non-exempt vehicles, and all 1996 and newer non-exempt vehicles with a MGW greater than 8,500 pounds, registered outside the New York Metropolitan Area must have this emissions inspection, and may be charged this additional fee.

Diesel
All non-exempt diesel-powered vehicles over 8,500 pounds MGW with "DEMA" printed on the registration, or all such vehicles that will be registered in New York City or Rockland, Westchester, Nassau or Suffolk counties, must have this test, and may be charged this additional fee.

If repairs are needed to pass inspection, they may be done at any location the motorist chooses.

The full inspection fee is due upon completion of a proper inspection, regardless of whether the vehicle passes or fails that inspection. A reinspection fee may be charged only when the vehicle is removed from the station by the motorist and returns for reinspection. When this occurs, the complete inspection for the failed safety or emissions inspection for the vehicle group must be performed.

* Registrants of vehicles with a MGW over 10,000 pounds, and up to and including a MGW of 18,000 pounds, may request a Heavy Vehicle inspection, receive the Heavy Vehicle Inspection Certificate, and be charged the Heavy Vehicle (Group 2) inspection fee.

THERE IS NO SALES TAX ON INSPECTION FEES
