To All Stations:
Issuing a 10-Day
Extension
Inspection stations
should NOT direct motorists to visit DMV issuing
offices or County Clerk offices for a 10-Day Extension, as they will
not issue an extension for an expired inspection.
A vehicle qualifies for
a 10-Day Extension only if:
it passes all
aspects of the inspection, safety, ECD, gas cap and OBDII with
exception that the Readiness Monitors are not set to “Ready”,
and
the previous
inspection certificate has expired.
When a vehicle
passes all aspects of the inspection except for Readiness Monitors a
screen will display what monitors are not set to “Ready”.
The inspector needs to either press “Y” on the scan tool
or “enter” on the keyboard to continue. The next screen
will display that the inspection is complete, shut the engine off.
The inspector needs to press, “enter” on the keyboard to
continue. A screen will appear that reads, “Please enter the
expiration date of the previous inspection certificate MM-YYYY”.
The inspector needs to enter only a two-digit month and four-digit
year (e.g. January 31, 2005 entered as 01-2005).
For vehicles that are
registered in the New York Metropolitan area (NYMA), they will most
likely have an inspection certificate with an expiration date that
expires on a day other than the last day of the month (e.g. February
12, 2005). If the inspection date were expired at the time of the
inspection the inspector would enter the previous month (e.g.
01-2005). If the inspection certificate is expired and the date is
entered correctly the NYVIP analyzer will issue a 10-Day Extension,
which will print on the Inspection Receipt. The NYVIP analyzer will
only issue one 10-Day Extension per vehicle.
These are messages sent by NYS DMV to the
inspection stations via the emissions analyzer units. They frequently contain important
information, usage tips, or announcements of system changes.
