NYVIP UNIT MESSAGE No
NYVIP MESSAGE No.1
(2006)
1/10/2006
TO: All INSPECTION STATIONS
FROM: NYS DEPT. OF MOTOR VEHICLES
SUBJECT: EXPIRATION
DATE ON INSPECTION - RECEIPT
Due to a delay in a
planned software update to the NYVIP software, the expiration date
that prints on the inspection receipt may not match the date range
punched on the window inspection sticker. The current software
version installed in the NYVIP equipment prints an expiration date on
the Vehicle Inspection Report (VIR) for the following year on the
last day of the month the vehicle is inspected. When the revised
software is released, the date printed on the receipt will correspond
with the date punched in the sticker.
Since this temporary
situation may be confusing to motorists, we ask that you cross out
the date if incorrect and write in the correct date. For instance,
if you have punched the period 1-10, you would enter January 10, 2007
as the expiration date, January 20, 2007, for the period 11-20, and
if you punched 21-31, you would leave the date as printed.
As you know, this is a
new sticker design and a change of expiration date for some
customers, and you may wish to explain the changes so they have a
clear understanding of when to get their vehicle inspected next year.
We continue to believe this change will help you and your customers
in the long run. It will prevent the rush at the end of the month
and will avoid delays for customers that need an inspection and find
your station too busy to accommodate them.
We apologize for this
inconvenience. If you have any questions, please contact the Clean
Air Office at (518) 473-0597.
These are messages sent by NYS DMV to the
inspection stations via the emissions analyzer units. They frequently contain important
information, usage tips, or announcements of system changes.
