NYVIP MESSAGE No

NYVIP  MESSAGE  No.7 (2006)

5/10/2006

TO: All INSPECTION STATIONS

FROM: NYS DEPT. OF MOTOR VEHICLES

SUBJECT: FACILITY LICENSE RENEWALS REMINDER

We have noticed quite a few stations that end up with their NYVIP units inoperable because they failed to renew in a timely manner. We are sending out this reminder to help you avoid problems if you fail to renew your facility license before it expires. You must keep your facility licenses current in order to perform NYS inspections on the NYVIP equipment. The only way to update the facility information in the NYVIP unit when you renew your license, is to scan the barcode on the new inspection station license document. You must renew early enough to receive your new license prior to the expiration date of your old license.

The quickest way to renew your license is to renew on-line. Simply visit the DMV website at <http://www.nysdmv.com>. Go to Online Transactions or scroll to the bottom of the page and click on DMV Services then click on Renew Facility Business Certificates. Click again on Renew Facility Business Certificates and follow the directions for on-line renewal. Payment can be made by credit card..

If you prefer to renew by mail, in order to avoid an interruption of inspections your facility license should be renewed well before the listed expiration date. Please allow sufficient time for mailing and processing. In order to insure continuous operation you should return your renewal as soon as you receive it from us. In any event, you should renew at least 60 days prior to expiration.

Certified Inspectors should also allow sufficient time to renew their certified inspectors cards before expiration. Certified Inspectors should also return the renewal as soon as they receive notice from us. They should renew at least 60 days before expiration. Certified inspectors cannot renew on-line at this time. It is important that certified inspectors notify the DMV of address changes in order to receive the renewal invitation.

The NYVIP unit stores the expiration date scanned from both the facility license and the certified inspector’s license. Before the expiration date, inspectors and facility owners should scan their new license to store the new expiration date. This is done in the Station Menu, choosing either Facility Initialization/Facility License or Inspector IDs.

These are messages sent by NYS DMV to the inspection stations via the emissions analyzer units. They frequently contain important information, usage tips, or announcements of system changes.
