Frequently Asked Questions:
When do I have to start using my NYVIP machine?
NYS Inspection Regulations, effective 9/1/04, require that stations have the equipment and use it to perform inspections. Stations must begin using the equipment as soon as it is delivered.
Do I have to load all of my stickers or can I keep some out?
All of your stickers must be loaded during the initial inventory process. The NYVIP machine is equipped to keep a detailed log of your sticker inventory, which can be accessed at any time.
I cannot load my inspectors into the system, what do I do?
You will need to initialize your machine at which time you may add inspectors. However, if you have not added all of your inspectors when prompted during initialization, you will need to complete the loading of your initial sticker inventory prior to adding the remainder of your inspectors.
I received a floppy disk with my machine, what is it for?
There is a floppy disk shipped with all of the NYVIP machines to serve as a backup. If for any reason there is a power failure to the machine, no data will be lost. The floppy disk must be installed before the NYVIP machine will perform inspections.
I have connected my machine but it is interfering with my fax machine.
The NYVIP program requires that a dedicated telephone line be installed for each NYVIP unit on site. The reason for the dedicated line is that information may be sent by DMV or the vendor at any time and the machine needs to be available to receive these updates.
Do I have to perform all of the inspections through this machine?
Yes. The regulations require that all inspections must be recorded in the NYVIP equipment. The NYVIP machine was designed with the ability to maintain all of your sticker inventory. Any inspection stickers issued without going through the equipment will be shown as missing in the electronic inventory. Missing stickers will require an investigation.
Why do I have to use my machine now when the facility across the street is charging less and does not have a NYVIP inspection unit?
By December 1, 2004 all 1A designated inspection facilities will be required to have a fully operational NYVIP unit in order to perform NYS inspections. Any station that is not using the NYVIP equipment at that time is prohibited from performing inspections regardless of the reason they are unable to use the equipment.
Once I have initialized my NYVIP machine, how long do I have before I must use it?
Once you have initialized your unit, you will need to add your complete sticker inventory within 5 days. If you fail to load your stickers, you will need assistance from the Testcom Help Desk in order to resume operations of your NYVIP unit.
I have received my NYVIP machine, when will someone be coming to install my unit?
The equipment is designed for self-installation. If you need assistance installing your NYVIP machine, it is available 7am to 7pm, Monday through Friday from the SGS Testcom Help Desk at 1-866-469-8477.
